About Ryjunea/ Atropine Eye Drops
A licensed low-dose atropine treatment Ryjunea® is a prescription eye drop containing low-dose atropine, licensed to help slow myopia progression in eligible children. It contains atropine sulfate 0.1 mg/ml, equivalent to 0.01% atropine.
How does Ryjunea work?
Myopia progression is associated with excessive growth and elongation of the eye. Ryjunea is designed to help slow this progression. It does not correct blurred distance vision, so children will still require appropriate spectacles or contact lenses.
How is Ryjunea used?
The recommended dose is one drop into each eye once daily, preferably at bedtime. Treatment should be regularly reviewed. At Airedale Opticians, we can also monitor axial length to help assess response.
Ryjunea® – Safety and Important Information
When prescribed appropriately and used as directed, low-dose atropine is generally well tolerated. As with all medicines, side effects can occur and your prescribing clinician will discuss these before treatment begins.
The drops must be used exactly as prescribed and stored securely out of the reach of children. Accidental swallowing can potentially cause serious side effects and requires urgent medical advice.
Children using Ryjunea should remain under regular professional review so their vision, prescription, eye growth and response to treatment can be carefully monitored.
